M17 Military Pistol

M17 Military Pistol - Now I've shot the regular 320, 320 and Scorpion (I think the steel framed one) and while I don't consider them bad guns, I don't think they offer anything new other than the unique frame materials and quick recoil impulse which I consider a plus.

I shoot glocks, czs, hks and sigs, but if the military hadn't chosen the 320 for price and factory support, I don't think it would have the following characteristics. Nor am I aware of any other weapon with so many negligence waivers.

Some of these are likely due to user error, but some have strong supporting evidence, as documented by legal case teams. To me, the 320 is just another plastic gun fighting for the same market as everyone else.

The military told vendors they wanted outside security. 320 didn't have it, but you gave it. Glock no. The Army called the project the "Modular Small Arms System". The motivation was the many cracked frames of the Beretta M92.

When the frame broke, they had to buy new weapons. So they were looking for a platform that would allow them to easily replace the lower part of the gun and easily adapt it to different sized hands.

He gave them Sig. Other sellers don't. According to the soldiers of the 1st Armored Division, who recently had the opportunity to shoot the new 9mm sidearm, the new modular military pistol system (MHS) causes a lot of excitement at the shooting range.

To meet the stringent standards of the XM17 MHS application, FN has introduced an updated version of its FNS-9 Compact. The resulting FN 509 - currently available on the civilian market - is made with a firing pin without a manual safety.

Sti-Detonics Stx

It features luminescent three-dot sights, an external extractor that doubles as a loaded chamber indicator, a cold forged barrel with a recessed target crown, and a polymer grip frame that accepts interchangeable backstraps. The FN 509's grip is also heavily textured for a secure grip, and the bolt stop and magazine release are ambidextrous.

(fnamerica.com) The full M17 has an attacker booted operating system and has a magazine capacity of 17 rounds compared to the 15 round capacity of the M9. The MHS also consists of a compact M18 pistol to replace the M11 service pistol.

Yes, my Sig SP 2340 Blueline has been my weapon for years. 2340 is the predecessor of 2022 and the blue line was only sold to the police/military. I bought it used and I can't tell you how many rounds I've done over the years and never had a single failure.

Works and shoots great so I've never felt the need to buy anything else. The main finding is that this M17 had no failure. I've also had no issues with any of the previous P320s I've shot or with the M18.

I think a lot of people talk about how badly these guns are allegedly made, but I have yet to find anyone who has had this experience themselves other than the obvious goofballs in the comments or on the forum.

Detonics Defense has partnered with a major competitor STI gun manufacturer to offer the STX. The STX was one of the few truly modular designs, and one of the few pistols with an all-metal chassis that accepts four different barrel/slot lengths as well as a full-size or compact grip.

Detonics and STI designed the frame according to the anthropometric grip geometry specified by the US military. The fire control kit is modular and striker-fired, maintaining one consistent trigger pull without being a true single action like a challenge.

However, the unit requires armor support to be replaced. While the pistol was under consideration, the STX was pulled from the competition with no explanation. (stiguns.com) However, the trigger was very good and didn't change at all in the pulling power in my time.

It's not exactly a lightweight trigger by any standard, but it's repeatable and breaks cleanly. The House Armed Services Committee pushed for canceling the XM17 MHS program and instead upgrading the M9 as a less expensive option.

In order to meet the MHS specifications while meeting the House's proposal, Beretta created an upgrade to the M9A3 pistol after identifying an Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) under an existing contract. However, word spread shortly thereafter that the M9A3 had been rejected, and the House of Representatives approved $5.4 million to purchase 7,106 MHS-approved pistols for testing.

Thus, the Army Contracting Command released an official MHS Request for Proposal (RFP) in August 2015, which estimated the value of the program at a maximum of US$580 million. So if this gun has seen so many rounds, shouldn't it be bare metal, gouged and pitted?

Some of you are probably thinking, "Well, Josh, you'd have some setbacks if you buried him in your chicken coop for a week, dumped him in traffic, and cleaned him out with salt water like the Special Forces do with their guns.

. You really aren't testing it hard enough. The only remaining problem is not so much the SIG problem as the rest of the industry problems. I would like to see more options for M17 safety cutout handle modules.

There are plenty of options for the standard P320, but not enough for the M17 in my opinion. Of course, even though it's classed as a pistol grip rather than a stock, there can still be legal issues with picking up your own MP17.

While FLUX does not sell their bracing kit as a Short Rifle (SBR) Kit and claim it is not in the ATF (all other guns) category of ATF to require a special punch, ATF is sometimes slow to make decisions.

on new products. It's also a good idea to check with any state or local laws regarding the use of SBRs before purchasing. Something I noticed while shooting all these cartridges is that the trigger never had a "break" feel.

Most guns I shoot high count ec rounds will wear as if the parts are ground and know each other. Finally: "On receipt of the submitted hardware items, it is verified that the proposed modular pistol system has an integrated rail, external safety mechanism, ergonomic adjustability (via grip inserts, grip panels, front or rear straps, various triggers or other means)

and it can't be just one-sided. Applications without these characteristics will not be considered for evaluation. I have some really nice autoloading pistols. I bought m17 for my grandson. After working with it and the m17 I decided I needed some.

One for each set. All the same, same features. I use one as a firearm. On average, more than 1,000 rubles a month. Never a problem, as accurate as high tariffs. It's my clothes. And it still looks like new.

“I think there has been some interest in the new weapon system,” Martin said in a recent military statement. "We have soldiers saying, 'Great, I'm very excited to shoot,' so that increases interest in qualifying with a handgun."

Glock

Civilian customers can purchase the bracing system without a custom case for around $0 or with a case for $0. However, as FLUX points out, there are currently no other case options on the market for this platform, so I'll probably want to buy the whole package.

This tool holster is open near the barrel allowing for a wide range of flashlights, silencers or other tactical (or legally tactical) accessories. They also sell variants for use with Glock pistols. 25,000 rounds and no worn springs are unlikely.

25,000 rounds and the finish is not worn anywhere (especially in the lock area)? Lamo nonsense. I may have been born last night, but it wasn't yesterday. As someone who averages 30,000 rounds a year and fires IDPA along with the occasional three-pistol match, there's no way the barrel surface isn't hollow in at least two places with that many rounds.

I hope no one reading this article is stupid enough to believe another internet meter. This happened after about 10,000 rounds. This was completely avoidable and I must admit I had removed the plate earlier and perhaps not tightened the screws enough.

I'm adding this more as a warning to make sure everything is always sharpened. According to the original RFQ, “MHS will consist of small arms, related ammunition and support accessories, including spare parts. Interested suppliers will be required to provide all the elements described in the resulting contract.

-size and compact weapon. The Department of Defense mandated that all competitors have adjustable grips, ambidextrous controls, magazine options, and rails. In addition, the military required each firearm tested to hit a 4-inch target from 50 yards at least 90 percent of the time during the weapon's lifetime.

CZ created versions of its P-09 and P-07 for military trials. Based on the CZ series popular in practical production/warehousing jobs, the CZ P-09 holds 19+1 9mm rounds and features a double action (DAO) trigger. A more compact P-07 was also considered, and gunners could swap the backstraps of both models.

The designs included manual safety features, but there is no indication that these guns actually had modular grips or frames. While not explicitly prohibited, the DAO trigger was certainly not an MHS requirement and was not preferred.

Ultimately, CZ decided not to officially participate in the XM17 MHS competition. (cz-usa.com) The M9 has been criticized because it doesn't have a rail system, it's not modular, it's harder to hide, and the grip is too big.

M17 responded to the call and offered improvements to these complaints. Credit to Beretta, her participation in the competition fixed all these perceived flaws, but eventually the military and the rest of the military followed Sig.

25,000 rounds is not a crazy amount. I know guys in the days before the ammo craze who shot 50-100,000 rounds a year in IDPA and USPSA matches. If you're trying to make something fail, it's really easy.

I treated this gun like any other weapon I own, and it treated me well. The controls are ambidextrous and all interchangeable parts can be fitted and removed in the field without the use of tools or first pulling the trigger.

The Army ultimately selected the full-size and compact 9mm variants in Flat Dark Earth with manual thumb safety features. My overall impression at this stage is that the M17 is a good gun, and the military has picked up a great set of guns that are durable, accurate, and reliable.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use this weapon as my primary carry weapon and would like to use it in duels as is. Personally, my entire current collection is based on budget and functionality as I simply can't afford Legion-type weapons, but there's absolutely no reason why I shouldn't spend my money on what you like.

I have a great "cheap" pistol that I carry every day, has a great trigger and has never let me down in any way, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a high end proven pistol if I could.

Not every good buy is flex. Sometimes it's nice to have nice things! Beretta also offered the APX, which was primarily designed for the XM17 MHS after the rejection of the M9A3. It is a striker-firing pistol and the APX also features a removable stock chassis and can be modified with a variety of frame guards made of glass-reinforced polymer.

Unlike the Glock, there is no need to pull the trigger during disassembly as the user can disable the internal firing mechanism. Manual safety, magazine disconnect safety and chamber load indicator are also available upon request.

There is also a compact frame module and interchangeable back straps in different thicknesses. Finally, the APX met all MHS specifications and preferences and is a true modular design. Its biggest drawback is its field experience, as it was designed and released in 2016 just in time for evaluation.

It has not been officially adopted anywhere yet. (beretta.com) "It feels a lot smoother and lighter than the M9," said the lieutenant. Michael Preston. “I feel that switching to the M17 will bring us many benefits in combat.

Just being here today, I was able to shoot well and I noticed it was easier." "When we come out of our tanks, less weight is good," Martin said in a statement. “Every ounce you take out of your inventory is less weight for your troops.

So, for foot soldiers who cover miles at a time, it's good to have less weight to carry so they can focus on maintaining combat fitness and combat readiness." This does NOT fit the Glockista or MAC cultists who think that constantly running a gun through dirt, water, mud and sand is any sign of reliability in some far-fetched reality.

This kind of reasonable assessment of weapons simply can not stand. Since around 2014, the P320 has been adopted by some law enforcement agencies. Apparently the DoD already uses Sig M11/P228 pistols. In addition, the company is reportedly selling units to the military for just over $200, though this may only be for the fire control unit.

Part of the Swiss KRISS group, Sphinx has introduced sub-compact and compact versions of its DA/SA SDP pistols, similar to the CZ 75, to the XM17 MHS. Utilizing a hybrid metal/polymer frame, the SDP MHS offering had frame sizing inserts as well as ambidextrous controls.

While SDP has had some success in law enforcement and military applications, it is not as widely used in the United States (kriss-usa.com). I have a friend who went on a mission to destroy M17 when it first appeared.

He has over 52,000 rounds behind him. Almost the same story. I've never had a crash. I have 320 in M17, M18 and Legion. My round count on them is much lower (around 10,000), but mine was the same.

The Legion model is one of the most accurate pistols I own. I hate to say it, but this is not normal. Most people take decent care of their guns, and it was never my intention to intentionally drive this thing into the ground.

The pistol was routinely maintained, worn regularly, had various lights installed over time, and was used in some typical pistol matches.
